The Royal Surrey County Hospital
Egerton Road, Guildford, GU2 7XX
The Royal Surrey County Hospital was one of the first to become an NHS Trust in 1991 and is now one of the country’s leading cancer care facilities. With lighting being of paramount importance to the 24-hour site, Gary Mountjoy, the Estates Manager at the hospital, oversaw a two-stage Save it Easy® installation to replace nearly 12,000 4ft T5 tubes.
In March 2007 a 980 tube installation was undertaken at the Trust. When energy savings of 137,356 kWh per annum were demonstrated, it proved possible to mobilise additional budget for a complete site roll-out. In December 2008 a further 10,536 Save it Easy® converters were installed, with little disruption to the daily workings of the hospital.
As a result of installing the Save It Easy® units an annual energy cost saving of £52,848 and an annual CO2 emissions saving of 552 tonnes has been made. This means the project life savings of the installation total £399,764, which equates to 4,700 tonnes of CO2.
Including annual maintenance cost and Climate Change Levy -: 2.14 years.
