Alder Hey, Eaton Road, Liverpool, L12 2AP
Alder Hey Childrens’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest children’s hospitals in Europe, responsible for treating 400,000 sick children a year. The site’s buildings are under pressure to perform 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Trust used Save it Easy® to upgrade 9,768 lamps to low energy lighting.
After a successful small-scale trial at the hospital showed that energy savings of 45% were achievable, the Trust gave the go ahead for a sitewide Save it Easy® installation. In March 2008 over 9,700 lamps were converted with no disruption to the every day workings of the wards and installation was completed within an impressively brief three month period.
As a result of installing the Save It Easy® units an annual energy cost saving of £97,348 and an annual CO2 emissions saving of 481.1 tonnes has been made.
This means the project life savings of the installation totals £567,383, which equates to 4,090 tonnes of CO2.
